Fellowship Dallas Elder Policy

In the New Testament, we see a clear principle for church leadership: plurality. The Church is designed to be shepherded by a team of godly leaders. By seeking consensus and unity among Elders, Fellowship Dallas lives out a model that provides balance in direction, accountability in stewardship, faithfulness in teaching, and wisdom in ministry. This shared leadership allows Elders to focus on their biblical calling, to lead, pray, and shepherd the Church, while empowering ministry staff and leaders to carry out the mission through their unique gifts.

Biblical Qualifications

Our Elders are men who radiate Jesus and embody the biblical picture of an Elder. At Fellowship Dallas, Elders shepherd together—not as solo leaders, but as a unified team that directs, enables, and protects the health of our church. These qualifications are found in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5:1–4.

  • Live above reproach—marked by integrity, humility, and a Christlike reputation at home, at work, and within our church family.
  • Lead a loving, Christ-centered home—faithful in marriage and steady in leadership.
  • Walk in spiritual maturity—devoted to prayer, Scripture, worship, and the way of Jesus.
  • Lead with self-control—gentle, patient, hospitable, and not driven by anger, addiction, or greed.
  • Love and serve the Church—shepherding with compassion, praying with people, and helping our Body flourish.
  • Hold to sound doctrine—able to faithfully teach Scripture and guard the truth with grace.
  • Are devoted to unity—listening well, pursuing peace, and strengthening the oneness of our church.Support and strengthen our mission—aligning fully with our calling to Love God, Love One Another, and Live Like Jesus. And wholeheartedly affirm our values – Dependence on God, Grace and Truth, Mosaic Community, and Radiate Jesus.

These men must also be available and willing to serve sacrificially. They humbly love Christ and His people, and they have the capacity to carry the responsibilities entrusted to Elders.

Responsibilities of Elders

By the grace of Jesus Christ, Elders serve as undershepherds of His flock. This responsibility is carried out together, in humility and dependence on the Spirit. Elders commit themselves to prayer, unity, discernment, and faithful oversight.

Specifically, Elders are entrusted to:

  • Define and uphold the vision, mission, and goals of Fellowship Dallas
  • Ensure all teaching and ministry reflect sound biblical theology
  • Establish policies and steward the legal and financial health of the church
  • Oversee and encourage the Lead Pastor and other senior staff
  • Shepherd and pray with members of the congregation
  • Train and affirm future Elders
  • Serve visibly in worship gatherings, modeling prayer and care
  • Support and encourage the staff of Fellowship Dallas
